The Collective School of Music – not just a Drum School
In an effort to expand and improve all non-drum division offerings, The Collective School of Music has very recently taken many steps forward. April 12, 2010 marked day one of a 4 day intensive workshop for guitar players and bass players with jazz guitar legend Wayne Krantz. The course titled, An Improvisors OS, which is also the name of Wayne’s critically acclaimed self published book, created a very unique opportunity for students to study in an intimate setting with one of today’s busiest and most innovative musicians.
The 4 day intensive workshop sold-out well in advance, drawing guitar and bass players from all over the New York City area. Enrollment was limited to keep a sharp focus on the material. Each class was 2 hours plus in length and was based on Wayne’s curriculum from his fore mentioned book.
The Collective had a chance to speak with Wayne after the workshop was over and he had a lot of great things to say about not only his class, but The Collective as well:
Wayne Krantz and The Collective go back in history to the early 90’s. “Zach Danziger used to study and practice there all the time and we would meet there to work on material and ideas. For drummers, it was the best game in town and as far as I know it still is. Of course it's become even more than that - they've branched out into all fields of music and performance instruction.” says Wayne. “A series of guitar workshops I gave there recently is a good example of why I think The Collective is such a valuable resource: they allowed me the complete freedom to teach what and how I wanted to, filled the class with enthusiastic students, set it up in a well-organized way and treated the proceedings with total respect. In education, it doesn't get better than that. I endorse The Collective whole-heartedly to anyone devoted to the idea of improving themselves as musicians, on any instrument” he added.
The Students who attended Wayne’s intensive course were very impressed and offered some great feedback and testimonials – here are a few quotes:
“What Wayne taught us is an uncommon, yet very useful way to view tonality and is not the kind of information you can find just anywhere. Incredibly valuable!”
“It was a fantastic experience spending over 8 hours with Mr.Krantz. He is a true gem. In addition to enjoying spending time with Wayne, I also really enjoyed meeting and talking with the other students”.
