Dave Previ specializes in funk and rock music. A member of local bands as well as a session player, Dave’s experience ranges from delicate singer songwriter gigs to heavy odd meter progressive rock as well as funk, country and Broadway. A Collective alumnus, Dave’s teaching varies from rudiments & reading to technique & coordination to functional time playing in various styles on the drum set.
Dave moved to NYC in 2005 from the Northern Virginia area where he had a private teaching practice at The Contemporary Music Center as well as teaching at middle and high school band programs as a drum line instructor. He played for modern dance classes at George Mason University. He also played in touring bands from the area ever since he returned to it after graduating from WVU in 1998. He played in many clubs around the Northern Virginia/Washington DC area as well as clubs through out the east. From 2002 – 2005 Dave played in Boogiehawg a touring Funk band, playing 180 dates a year.
Since moving to New York Dave has played with Pat McGee, Mieka Pauly, Madison South, Nevereven, Suspicious Brown, Mandy The Bandit & The It Band, The RitMo Collective, Laura Thomas Band, Food Will Win The War, Radio Tea, SusMo, Sublunar Minds, Temple Hill, Lauren Hunt, The Devil Nellys, In Flight Radio, Wellbilt, Bobby T. & The Magic Voyagers and Shane Gamble, NYU Modern Dance Classes.
Dave is also a contributing columnist for Modern Drummer magazine. You can read his reviews and interviews in current issues of the magazine.
