The Collective School of Music 2014 Clinics and Events Year in Review.
We had a great year in 2014 with all of our clinics and events and we are looking forward to another great year in 2015! Here is a brief review of each clinic and event throughout 2014:
Memo Acevedo Master Class featuring Jacquelene Acevedo 1/9/2014
Long time Faculty member Memo Acevedo was back in for a Master Class on January 9th, 2014. Memo brought in his very talented daughter Jacquelene Acevedo to play in the class along with him. It was a very educational and great experience for all in attendance. We thank Memo and Jacquelene for a great night and we are looking forward to having him back teaching again at the school. Jules Radino Clinic 1/16/2014
Our good friend and Artist in Residence Jules Radino from Blue Oyster Cult came in and put on a clinic on January 16th, 2014. It was the first time Jules came in to The Collective School of Music, New York City for a clinic and it was a great night for all in attendance! Jules had a lot of great advice to offer all of the students in attendance as well as some great charts for everyone to work on after the clinic was finished. We thank Jules for coming in and we hope to have him back in again in the future! Mark Walker Clinic 2/6/2014
The Collective School of Music, New York City welcomed back Mark Walker for a clinic on February 6th, 2014. Mark had the class in full attention and participation throughout. The Collective Spring Semester 2014 Faculty Recital 3/28/2014
The Collective’s Spring 2014 Semester kicked off on Monday, March 24th. The week was filled with many events as well as students getting settled in to their programs. The week commenced on Friday, March 28th with a Faculty Recital featuring Peter Retzlaff, Sean Conly, and Nate Radley.
Mike Orlando Guitar Clinic 3/29/2014
We had a great time with Mike Orlando on Saturday, March 29th! Mike came into The Collective School of Music, New York City for his first clinic with us and it was an amazing experience! Mike kept everyone in attendance on the edge of their seats with his amazing chops and technique. It was an unforgettable afternoon to say the least and we hope to have Mike back in for another clinic in the near future.
Joe Bergamini Bonham/Peart clinic 4/17/2014
Our good friend Joe Bergamini came back in for a very special clinic discussing and analyzing various tracks from John Bonham and Neil Peart on Thursday, April 17th 2014. Joe put together a perfect mix of songs highlighting some of the great tracks performed on by both Bonham and Peart. Will Calhoun Clinic 4/24/2014
The Collective School of Music, New York City was proud to bring back Will Calhoun for a clinic on Thursday, April 24th. It was great to have Will back in again as he is also a former alum of the school. We also had a very special surprise guest in the audience, Will’s original teacher from Drummers Collective, Horacee Arnold. The Collective also welcomed our Friends from Trøndertun folkehøgskole in Norway for the clinic. Marko Djordjevic Clinic featurning Evan Marien and Julian Pollack 4/24/2014
The Collective School of Music, New York City welcomed back Drummers Collective faculty member Marko Djordjevic on April, 24th, 2014 for a very special clinic featuring Evan Paul Marien on Bass and Julian Pollack on Keys. Marko and the band kept everyone on the edge of their seats for the entire clinic. It was once again another amazing evening spent with all 3 musicians! We hope to bring them back again very soon! Lincoln Goines Master Class 4/25/2014
Bass Collective Artist in Residence Lincoln Goines was back at The Collective School of Music, New York City for a very special Master Class on Friday, April 25th 2014. As usual Lincoln put on a very informational and educational Master Class as well as keeping everyone laughing with his sense of humor and sharp wit. The Collective also welcomed our Friends from Trøndertun folkehøgskole in Norway for the Master Class. We are looking forward to having Lincoln back very soon.
Ron Thaler Clinic 5/1/2014
Our good friend and Amigo Ron Thaler came back to The Collective School of Music, New York City for another great clinic on May 1st, 2014. Camille Gainer Clinic 5/15/2014
Drummers Collective faculty member Camille Gainer Jones put on a very interesting clinic on May 15th, 2014. Camille’s clinic was based around cutting live samples on the fly that were all improvised. It was a very unique and inspiring clinic for all in attendance. As usual, Camille did not let anyone down with her relentless display of chops on the Drum Set. Faculty Recital Summer Semester 2014 6/10/2014
The Collective’s 2014 Summer Semester began on Monday June 9th. We decided to kick it off the right way with a faculty recital featuring Adriano Santos on Drums, Sheryl Bailey on Guitar, Irio O’Farrill on Bass, and Bob Quaranta on Piano. As always they all put on an outstanding performance and we are honored to have them as part of The Collective family!
Kim Plainfield Master Class 6/12/2014
Long time Drummers Collective faculty member Kim Plainfield helped kick off our Summer semester with a Master Class on Thursday, June 12th 2014. He brought in faculty members Bob Quaranta and Gregg Jones as accompaniment for the class. As expected, Kim’s class was extremely inspiring for all in attendance and showed once again why he is one of our lead faculty members. We thank Kim, Bob, and Gregg for a great evening! Brian Tichy Master Class 6/13/2014
The Collective welcomed Brian Tichy in for his very first Master Class at the school on Friday, June 13th 2014. Brian put on a great class interacting with some of the students in the audience as well as putting on a very intense display of showmanship and technique. Brian was surprised by a very special guest in the audience, Steve Smith. Both Brian and Steve traded a few stories and then finished out the evening by trading licks on the kit. It was an unforgettable evening and we hope to have Brian back in again in the very near future. Gerwin Eisenhauer’s Boom – Music from Video Games Clinic 6/19/14
The Collective was proud to bring back Drummers Collective alum Gerwin Eisenhauer for a very special evening featuring his project BOOM – Music from Video games. The band featuring Uli Zrenner-Wolkenstein (Bass), Walter Lang (Piano), and Graeme Stephen (Guitar), put on an amazing performance featuring songs from some of the most popular video games of many generations. This was a very unique clinic unlike anything we have hosted before and each song was uniquely performed in various styles. We hope to bring Gerwin and Boom back to The Collective in the future. Adam Nussbaum Master Class 6/26/2014
The Collective was proud to bring back our long time friend Adam Nussbaum for a Master Class on Thursday, June 26th 2014. As always Adam put on a very educational and informative Master Class. He covered many different topics and blew everyone away with his playing. Adam was accompanied by Frank Gravis on Bass, and Rob Aries on Keys. Todd Sucherman Master Class 6/27/2014
We had a great time with our good friend Todd Sucherman on Friday, June 27th for his first Master Class ever at The Collective. Peter Szendofi Clinic 7/10/2014
Drummers Collective Alum Peter Szendofi came back in for a clinic on Thursday, July 10th 2014. It was great to have Peter back with us again. His clinic was very educational and covered topics such as playing grooves and soloing in different odd meters, drum n bass concepts, an many reading exercises. Brad Russell Bass Clinic 7/24/2014
Bass virtuoso Brad Russell came in for his very first clinic with us on Thursday, July 24th 2014. Accompanying him was the extremely talented Jason Furman on Drums. Both musicians displayed their master craftsmanship on their instruments keeping everyone in the audience on the edge of their seats for over an hour. The feedback given to the audience was very educational for both bass players as well as the drummers in the audience. Chris Amott Guitar Clinic 8/7/2014
The Collective was proud to bring in Christopher Amott for his first clinic at the school. Chris put on an amazing display of chops as he played to tracks and broke down each song for all the students in attendance. We had a great time and learned a lot from Chris’ technique and versatile playing style. We hope to have Chris back in again in the future.
Tommy Igoe Master Class 8/16/2014
The Collective was proud to bring back our good friend Tommy Igoe for a Master Class on August 16th, 2014. Tommy is a master musician as well as a world class educator. He provided every student in attendance a lot of beneficial information and showed everyone why he is a master at what he does. We are looking forward to bringing Tommy back in again in the near future for more classes.
Faculty Recital Fall Semester 9/8/2014
We kicked off our Fall 2014 semester on September, 8th 2014. We closed out the day with a very cool Faculty Recital with faculty members Tobias Ralph, Ismau McGregor, and Steve Jenkins. The recital lasted for over an hour and was an amazing performance with 3 very talented musicians. This was definitely a great way to kick off the Fall semester!
Daniel Glass Clinic 9/18/2014
The Collective was proud to bring back our good friend and Artist in Residence Daniel Glass for another awesome clinic on Thursday, September 18th 2014. Daniel is a master educator and musician and he did not let anyone down in this clinic. Daniel’s clinic was based on shuffles and kept everyone in attendance glued to their seats for two hours. We thank Daniel again for a great evening and look forward to having him back again. Drummers Collective Alum and Artist in Residence Chris Christopher R. Coleman came back in for another amazing Master Class on Thursday, September 25th. As he always does, Chris displayed his masterful chops around the drum set as well as his advanced musicianship skills to all in attendance. The class was close to 3 hours long and gave everyone insight as to why Chris is a master musician in today’s industry. Steve Smith Clinic 9/27/2014
Drum Master Steve Smith came back for another clinic on Saturday, September, 27th. Steve is one of the greatest musicians of all time as well as being one of the top music educators that we have had the honor of working with for many years. His passion for playing and teaching are always on display every minute of the day. We are proud to have Steve as a part of The Collective family and look forward to having him back in very soon! Jojo Mayer Clinic 10/2/2014
The Collective was proud to bring Jojo Mayer in for the very first time and it was long overdue! Jojo brought Bass Collective faculty member John Davis to accompany him for the clinic. The room was packed to capacity and everyone was blown away by both musicians as they not only played to the highest level, but they also offered some extremely valuable information. We hope to have Jojo back in again in the future as this was a clinic that should not have been missed by anyone. We are also looking forward to having John in for a clinic in the near future. Scott Sharrard and The Brickyard Band Clinic 10/30/2014
Guitarist Scott Sharrard came back in to The Collective for a very special clinic with his own band featuring Diego Voglino (Drums), Brett Bass (Bass), and Adam Scone (Organ). Scott played some of his songs from The Brickyard Band as well as songs from Greg Allman. The topics of discussion for the clinic were: Working as a sideman song writing, vocals, and working as a Musical Director. This was a very educational clinic and we are looking forward to having Scott back in again in the future.
