Jim Mola has been performing professionally for 40 years. He has performed or recorded with jazz artists such as Phil Woods, Hank Jones, Dr. Billy Taylor, Nelson Rangell, and Stanley Turrentine, as well as a diverse group of pop icons, Broadway and show business personalities including Tony Bennett, Angelique Kidjo, Jane Olivor, Henny Youngman, Al Hirt, Pat Cooper, Mario Cantone, and many others.
He has also worked extensively in New York City’s recording studios, doing television, film, and jingle dates including A&E’s “Rat Pack” biography, Turner Classic Movie’s Lana Turner biography, Burger King, Nikon, Band-Aid, and many others.
As an educator, Jim has maintained a private teaching practice since 1978, gives master classes at The Collective, has taught at the University of Bridgeport, and travelled as a visiting clinician teaching private students and giving clinics in universities and other settings.
Jim endorses Sabian cymbals, Vater drumsticks and accessories, Aquarian drumheads and PreSonus audio gear.
In addition to his career as a drummer and educator, Jim also records prolifically as a vocalist and voice over artist. His extensive client list includes AT&T, Family Guy, GM, VH1, Z100, Jack-FM, WCBS, the NBC Orchestra, Robert De Niro, Disney, Pixar, Turner Classic Movies, Warner Brothers films and many others. His work is featured in the Smithsonian Museum and the Baseball Hall of Fame, and is heard regularly on radio and television across the country.
Jim’s popular Collective clinic series is entitled, “Developing an Approach to Self Expression” and his approach to education is based on this philosophy. It’s goal is to help the student, regardless of their chosen instrument, sort through and shape the tremendous amount of information available to them into a coherent and personal channel for their artistic goals.
