We invite you to join us to celebrate the life of long-time Drummers Collective faculty member and dear friend Frank Katz on Saturday, October 29th. Frank started taking lessons at Drummers Collective in his early teens. Shortly after, he was hired to teach at Drummers Collective, then The Collective, where he shared his enthusiasm for music and vast drumming knowledge with students through early 2022. He was an influential teacher to some of the greatest drummers in New York City and an inspirational force behind the drum set. His drumming with many artists, including the jazz fusion band Brand X, was seriously technical and beautiful.
This event will feature members of our community playing selections of Frank’s music, a screening of a never before seen interview with Frank, and a special appearance by his brother Ivan Katz. We will be joined by Jason Gianni, Tobias Ralph, Alex Cohen, and David Previ, performing Frank’s music on drums. They will be accompanied by Chris Biesterfeldt (guitar), Christopher Clark (keys), and John McFaul (bass).
This event is open to all who want to remember Frank and his music. If you are unable to make it to 28 Broadway in person, you can tune in via the live stream. To get the link to the stream, please sign up.
