SoundCollective and The Collective are excited to announce the next free event in our Collective Masters Live series, Ancel Klooster: The Drum Grillbook Clinic, on May 2nd at 6:00 PM! Klooster is a graduate of The Collective and has been a professional drummer since he was 17 years old; starting playing operettas, now playing modern creative jazz with his group Klatwerk3, and has played everything in between. He’s graced the stage with acts, including Weekend at Waikiki and Jumping the Blues. Additionally, he’s joined the pit orchestra in the musicals Chicago, 42nd Street and Annie. Ancel endorses Sonor, Paiste, Vic Firth, Remo, and Hudson Music.
Klooster authored The Drum Grillbook with Peter Deiman, published by Hudson Music, a comprehensive approach to creating interesting grooves and fills. The approach combines grooves and fills to create inspired “grills”; the groove gets more colour and the fill gets more pulse. Klooster and Deiman emphasize how the reader (and non reader) can use their approach to expand their drum vocabulary creatively and apply their ideas to many musical situations. Klooster’s clinic will focus on many elements from the book, including groupings, fills, improvisations, and grill variations (linear and polyrhythmic).
Ancel Klooster: The Drum Grillbook Clinic is a free event all drummers can attend in person at 28 Broadway, NYC or via the event live stream. Make sure to RSVP to reserve your seat and receive the link to the live stream!
