Nortonk is trumpeter Thomas Killackey, saxophonist Gideon Forbes, bassist Stephen Pale, and drummer Steven Crammer. This quartet strives to create an interactive space for each band member to contribute, both as improvisers and composers. Nortonk creates challenging structures that form a framework in which improvisations and musical interactions feel inspired, charged, and immediate. The flexibility of the chord-less instrumentation allows the group to instinctively explore the rhythmic and formal elements of each composition.

Thanks to the Collective’s new online remote learning initiatives, newcomers and alumni from around the world have been able to reconnect with The Collective on a daily basis, and bring our famous New York campus straight into their living rooms in real-time. Albeit by taking online private lessons with some of the incredible faculty or tuning into one of our free hour-long clinics/shows with a featured faculty member or artist, musicians are able to continue to pursue their goals and share amazing experiences together online through The Collective!

Now, The Collective is able to bring you an hour-long set from Nortonk hosted by Chris Bottone, full of exciting music from this incredibly talented group of performers for your enjoyment. If you’re missing the live music scene in these times of isolation, now is a great opportunity to support live music through The Collective’s new Live Performance Series, and experience the musical genius of Nortonk! Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity, and be sure to keep updated on all Collective news and content by following us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter @thecollectivenyc
