This Winter, The Collective is offering a new way to study with some of our world-class faculty! We are excited to announce our new series of Listening Classes, a course that can be informative and enjoyed by both professional musicians and music lovers alike! Four 90-minute weekly online sessions for only $129! You will deep-dive into the songs and artists of some of the most influential styles of music, curated by experts in their genre!

Our Contemporary Jazz Drumming Listening Class will be curated and hosted by none other than Juno Award-Winning drummer: Ian Froman! Froman is a celebrated Jazz percussionist and faculty member at The Collective, who has had a highly successful career with his own band Metalwood. Known for his incredibly dynamic solos and inventive techniques in both performance and teaching, Froman has performed alongside fellow Jazz greats Dave Liebman, Rick Margitza, Sheryl Bailey, and Mike Stern. On top of his multiple Juno awards, Froman has also been awarded the West Coast Music Award and two Jazz Report Magazine Awards, and also teaches at Berklee and City College.

Join Ian Froman for this interactive listening and analysis Zoom class featuring the Contemporary Jazz Stylings of Tony Williams, Elvin Jones and Jack DeJohnette.  There will be in-depth listening and discussion of these major drummers’ roles in developing drumming into the modern era. Transitioning from the 1950’s into the 1960’s and beyond, Ian will play some of his favorite recordings and offer insights into the contribution of these major drummers.

Dates: January 13, 20, 27 & February 3rd from 7PM-8:30PM EST
