The Collective is excited to offer our first new in-person course at our 28 Broadway location: “Explorations in Latin Jazz” with a stellar lineup of instructors! Grammy-Nominated Pianist Bob Quaranta, Celebrated Drummer Juan Mayogora, Latin Grammy Winning Afro-Cuban Percussionist Samuel Torres and Bassist Ricardo Rodriguez invite you to come join them in a 6-week ensemble group class to discover and improve the techniques and diverse styles found in Latin Jazz, and apply them to any genre!

Bob Quaranta is a multi-Grammy nominated pianist and the musical director for the legendary Mongo Santamaria’s band. Currently working as an integral member of the Ed Palermo Big Band and Gary Morgan and Panamerican, as well as being an incredible mentor of The Collective, Bob has taken lead to bring his skills on the keys and as a director to this group, and to you!

Born and raised in Bogota, Colombia, Juan Felipe Mayorga started to play the drums when he was 17 years old. He received a BFA in Music from the Universidad El Bosque in Colombia in 2006 and in 2009 he came to New York and studied at The Collective School of Music! Join this celebrated alumnus of our school as he teaches you how to master the many styles of Latin Drumming! Hear Juan play here!

Samuel Torres is a 2x Latin Grammy winning artist whose percussion work has allowed him to play amongst the who’s who of the Latin Jazz world: Ray Baretto, Arturo Sandoval, Tito Puente, Paquito D’Rivera, Chick Corea, and countless other greats line his impressive resume! Samuel has many celebrated personal projects, and brings his expertise in Latin Percussion to the list of mentors teaching you in this once in a lifetime experience!

Ricardo “Ricky” Rodriguez is a bass player extrodinaire who has mastered both Classical and Latin Jazz. Keeping it locked down on the low end alongside the likes of The David Sánchez Quartet, Branford Marsalis, Michele Rosewoman, Miguel Zenón Quartet, Adam Rogers, Lionel Loueke, Clarence Penn, Ignacio Berroa Quartet, Dave Samuel, Dave Schnitter, and many more, Ricky debuts as a mentor with The Collective for the first time, to help you develop your skills on the bass and take the sounds and techniques of Latin Jazz to explore any genre!

The course will allow you to meet in an intimate environment with one of these great mentors to focus on new techniques every class for an hour, allowing you a personal experience with a working, celebrated industry professional, before all coming together for the second hour to perform every class!
